About Dabur Vasavaleha
- Vasavaleha is a polyherbal Ayurvedic preparation used to treat cough, cold, asthma, and various bleeding disorders.
- It is an Ayurvedic Avaleha in semi-solid form.
- Preparation:
- First, make a Vasaka decoction by boiling its Swaras (juice) in water.
- The decoction is filtered, and sugar is added.
- This mixture is cooked and thickened.
- Removed from the stove and added Pippali churna and Ghee.
- Consumption: Typically taken by licking.
Indications of Dabur Vasavaleha
- Vasavaleha combines five natural ingredients for treating respiratory problems.
- Arusa (Vasa):
- Has expectorant and bronchodilator actions.
- Recommended for difficulty in breathing, asthma, and cough.
- Contains the alkaloid vasicine, which is a bitter bronchodilator, respiratory stimulant, hypotensive, cardiac depressant, uterotonic, and abortifacient.
- Pippali (Long Pepper):
- Contains the alkaloid Piperine.
- Has antiseptic and expectorant properties.
- Honey:
- Possesses antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antiviral properties.
- Adds a sweet taste to the medicine along with Misri (rock candy).
- Cow’s Milk Ghee:
- Holds significant therapeutic value.
- Uses:
- Effective for any type of cough, respiratory illness, and chronic cough.
- Relieves inflammation in the airways.
- Useful in chronic respiratory illnesses.
- Given to children with honey (3-4 times a day) for whooping cough.
Vasavaleha is also useful in treating:
- Raktapitta (Bleeding disorder)
- Rajayakshma (Tuberculosis)
- Raktapradar
- Bleeding piles
- Bloody dysentery
Other conditions where Vasavaleha is indicated include angina pectoris and parshva shula (intercostal neuralgia and pleurodynia).
Dosage of Dabur Vasavaleha
- 6 – 12 grams once or twice a day before or after food or as directed by an Ayurvedic doctor.
- It is usually administered with milk, honey, or warm water.
- For children below 5 years of age: 1 – 2 grams once or twice a day, along with a teaspoon of honey, warm water, or milk.
- For children between 5 – 12 years of age: 5 grams once or twice a day along with a teaspoon of honey, warm water, or milk.
Side Effects of Dabur Vasavaleha
- There are no known side effects for this medicine.
- In very high doses, it may rarely cause stomach irritation.
- Care is needed when administering it to diabetic people.
